Hua T'o (110-207CE) is one of the most famous physicians in Chinese Medicine. Among his contributions is the development of Five Animal Frolics, a system of exercises to invigorate the sinews, promote blood circulation, and revitalize the internal organs. Utilizing the characteristics of animals, the system includes the strength of the bear, the ferocity of the tiger, the suppleness of the deer, the agility of the monkey, and the elusiveness of the crane. As Hua T'o lived during the classical era, numerous versions of his Five Animal Frolics have evolved over the centuries. This version utilizes hand positions, sounds, and specific postures to reenact the qualities of these five animals."
